S. Vishvanath

According to his father Suresh, S. Vishvanath, who took home the gold in the 48 kg division at the IBA World Youth Championships, is a complete boxing addict. The reason Vishvanath is progressing so quickly in boxing is due to Suresh’s unwavering efforts.

S. Vishvanath has only been in Pune for a little over 12 hours; it is evident that he is jetlagged.

As the event only occurs once every two years, it feels amazing. There is still much for me to do. Despite the fact that my division (48 kg) is not included in the 2024 Paris Olympics, my ultimate ambition is to win a medal there, he stated.

Vishwanath, the son of a tailor named Suresh Babu, has seen hardship. Suresh, a boxer who competed at the state and national levels, had to care for his family because he was the oldest of four siblings (three sisters and a brother).

“I wanted to compete at a better level in boxing. My family was quite large. My obligations were considerable. After taking home the gold in the sub-junior level, I stopped,” he claimed.

Suresh worked tirelessly to make sure his son was able to compete at the highest level of boxing. Suresh chose to coach his son because he found it difficult to arrange the necessary funds for coaching.

Suresh taught the sports techniques at their house while Vishvanath exercised in the Corporation Ground in Perambur, close to his home.

When Vishvanath was in Std. VII, he attempted to enroll at Bengaluru’s MEG Centre but was unsuccessful in the selection process. Suresh remarked, “He didn’t have the required height.

Nothing is simple.

The 18-year-old claimed that none of the five matches at the World Youth Championships were simple and were all quite challenging. “Each boxer was unique and challenging. Every match was a hard fight, and nothing was easy,” he remarked.

Suresh claimed that boxing is all that Vishvanath does for a living. “Every time we talk, the topic of boxing, the best boxers in the world, and their tactics always come up. We don’t talk about movies or other entertainment.

His foundation is strong because of the committed ASI trainers Vijaykumar Sharma, Kamesh, and others. Only around 50% of his potential has been attained. He will win a lot more, I’m positive,” Suresh said.
