Unfortunately for Chelsea, they had a bad start in 2022 where Jose Mourinho was let go in December last year and they finished at number 10 in last year’s Premier League. Tuchel had revamped the club by spending £270 million this summer for new players.

However, after revamping the team, there are an increasing number of issues being faced by the Blues. They had recently lost two games. A 3-0 loss against Leeds and then losing another game with Southampton at 2-1 while initially leading..

Back in 2020, Chelsea created their own record for having players being bought at a total of £230 million for a single window. This year, they beat their own record and have added powerful new players such as Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in their attacking lineup.

They’ve further added Marc Cucurella and Kalidou Koulibaly at the left back and centre half. Sadly for Tuchel, Billy Gilmour left the Blues on the 1st of September, the last day for the transfer deadline leaving them for Brighton. Gilmour was one of the most important midfielders that Chelsea had.

Tuchel admitted that he didn’t want Gilmour to leave them. All the way back in 2019, Gilmour made his first debut for Chelsea and delivered good results for his team. In the Euro cup 2020, he gained in popularity and importance for the club as thanks to him the team had a scoreless draw against the opposing team.

Gilmour spent most of last season on loan at Norwich. This gave hope to Chelsea supporters as it might give him more exposure to another club, thus giving him a chance to improve his skills on the field.

Thomas Tuchel told the media in the UK, , ‘He played for us in the first half-a-year when I was at Chelsea and he played some important matches for us, and he looked for a new challenge, which did not go so well for him with Norwich.

‘We expected more and he expected more so without pointing a finger, it is difficult for him and also for us to not play at Norwich, to be relegated, and then suddenly be a central midfielder for Chelsea, competing for top four and for every title. It is a huge step.

‘So we were looking. The ideal solution would have been maybe that he goes again on loan as the concurrence is huge for us in central midfield and we thought he’s not the age anymore where he can live again with five, six, seven or eight matches during the whole season, and fulfil his own potential.’

Despite these issues, Chelsea managed to win a match against West Ham United just yesterday with a 2-1 score line. The quality Chelsea could bring off the bench to alter the match in their favour is a measure of the strength in depth the new lavishly built team now possess.

Although Tuchel felt there was a foul on his goalkeeper, he was pleased with the tenacity his team displayed.
