Kohli

In a match against the Kolkata Knight Riders, Virat Kohli was left furious when a new approach utilizing ball tracking technology declared him out on a full toss delivery that he believed went over his waist.

Before being removed, the Royal Challengers Bangalore opener scored 18 runs from seven balls while trailing Kolkata’s 222-6 total. His team ultimately lost the Indian Premier League (IPL) match by a single run.

Umpire’s review

Although Kohli had stepped out to bring down Harshit Rana for his high full delivery, he ultimately returned the favor to the bowler who had caught it. In order to determine if the ball was too high to be an authorized delivery, the umpire signaled for a review.

The tracker indicated that the ball dropped before it hit the crease, even though it was at Kohli’s waist when he played it. The height of the batter’s waist, which had been previously measured, was compared with the ball’s predicted height in the crease.

The third umpire removed Kohli from the game because the ball’s estimated height was determined to be lower than his waist. The former captain of India expressed his dissatisfaction with the call to the on-field umpire before leaving.

“Virat and myself at that stage thought that possibly the ball was higher than his waist…In those situations, you’ll always have one team that’s happy and one team that doesn’t feel like it’s quite the right decision. But that’s just how the game works,” Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis, who was at the non-striker end, said.
