A few days after Josh Giddey’s allegations exploded on the internet, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that the NBA is now investigating the case.
Via Charania: “The NBA is looking into the allegations of Oklahoma City’s Josh Giddey having inappropriate relationship with a minor that have emerged via social media, league spokesman Mike Bass said.”

Giddey becomes trolls’ new target
In 2021, Josh Giddey emerged from his Australian neighborhood to become one of the most formidable rookies the league has seen in years.
At 19 years old, he established himself as the youngest player in NBA history to record a triple-double and was named the NBA Western Conference Rookie of the Month in October 2021. He also posted three consecutive triple-doubles as a novice, becoming the first player in the league to do so since 1961.
Although his stats declined over the years, Giddey remained on OKC’s strong roster, continuing to regain his momentum in the new season. In OKC’s 11th game against the Spurs, Giddey scored 18 points and provided 7 assists.
However, his steady climb upward was abruptly halted when news of his improper relationship with a minor spread like wildfire on social media platforms.
Although the user who first exposed Giddey deleted his post, it was recreated by another user, writing, “Josh Giddey from the OKC thunder with an under-age girl. First video he is talking to her brother. This is Disgusting and this man needs to be punished. We can’t let this go under the surface any longer. This needs to be seen. Girl is a junior in high school.”

Later on, the girl was identified as Liv Cook.
Ever since the post blew up, the trolls have been taking their time to poke fun at Giddey’s allegations, putting him in the same bar as former Utah Jazz and Hall of Famer Karl Malone, who impregnated a 13-year girl when he was 20 years old.
The trolls online even went so far as to draw parallels between the two players’ achievements, stating that they’re the ‘youngest’ and ‘oldest’ players to achieve triple-doubles.
Giddey: ‘No comment’
Pressed by the media to comment on his viral allegations, Thunders shooting guard Josh Giddey appeared somewhat uncomfortable and politely declined to discuss the issue.
“I understand the question, obviously, but there’s no further comment right now.”
