Golden State

The Golden State Warriors announced the signing of forward Gui Santos on a three-year deal on Wednesday, November 8. Santos was assigned to the Warriors’ G League affiliate, Santa Cruz Warriors.

According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, Santos’ multi-year contract includes a $75,000 guarantee for this season and is not guaranteed for the next two seasons.

His newest addition brings the Warriors’ total number of players to 17.

Who is Gui Santos?

In 2018, Gui Santos began playing basketball professionally, albeit outside of the NBA. He debuted with Minas of the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB). Three seasons later, in the 2021–22 campaign, Santos won the NBB Sixth Man of the Year award for his exceptional play. He averaged 10.1 points per game and pulled down 5.1 rebounds.

And in the 2022 NBA Draft, Santos finally joined the league when he was selected by the Golden State Warriors with 55th overall pick in the second round. Later that year, he joined their NBA G League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors.

Last season, the 21-year-old appeared in 43 games with Santa Cruz, contributing 10.9 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.4 assists in 25.1 minutes per game.

This summer, Santos also played for his country, Brazil, in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, in which he registered an average of 7.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in five games.

Gui Santos: “It’s a dream come true”

On Golden State’s official X account, they posted a little welcome message for their newest forward, writing, “From dreams to reality. Welcome, @guisantos_4
👏.” The post also came with a video of Santos introducing himself to the public.

“What’sup, Dub Nation? Gui Santos here. I’m really happy with the new step on my journey,” the 21-year old said.

“So now I can’t wait to go up to Golden State, and that’s a dream come true. I worked hard for the moment, and now the time is here. So let’s get it,” he added.

In an article published in the Santa Cruz Sentinel on September 5, the team announced that they will host two home games at the beginning of the Showcase Cup, the first on November 10th against the visiting Stockton Kings and the second on November 11th against the visiting Salt Lake City Stars at the Santa Cruz Permanente Arena.

After the 14 games in the Showcase cup and 2 games in the Winter showcase, the Warriors are then set to appear in the 34-game regular season, which will start on December 28.
