Krejcikova

In an unexpected turn of events, the WTA announced last Sunday the end of Krejcikova and Siniakova’s long-standing partnership.

Krejcikova and Siniakova’s journey

Over the past 10 years, the world’s attention has been riveted on the Czech Republic’s top-ranked women’s doubles team of Barbora Krejickova and Katerina Siniakova. The powerful duo won a total of seven Grand Slam titles and fourteen trophies.

In 2021, they took the world by storm when they both won the much-coveted gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics and the WTA finals.

However, as much as their supporters want them to continue their journey together, the two have decided to go their separate ways.

After the Billie Jean King Cup

Their decision came after their dismal semi-final finish at the Billie Jean King Cup finals in Seville. They had lost to Canada’s Leylah Fernandez and Gabriela Dabrowski in straight sets.

Sources claim that Siniakova made the initial choice to split up because she wanted to grow improved and experience a new environment.

“It was my initiative. I would like to make progress, improve and try a different atmosphere,” said Siniakova

“We have agreed not to play together from next season. I wanted a little bit of change,” the Tenisovysvet.cz website quoted Siniakova as saying.

“I think a break could do us good. I don’t rule out we may play together again and maybe we’ll be even stronger,” she added.

Krejcikova, on the other hand, admitted that the move had caught her off guard but chose to honor Siniakova’s decision because that was what she wanted.
