Mason Greenwood

According to SkySports, The Crown Prosecution Service approved Mason Greenwood’s charges, and the Manchester United striker will appear at Greater Manchester Magistrates’ Court today.

The Crown Prosecution Service’s spokesperson stated, “The Crown Prosecution Service has today authorised Greater Manchester Police to charge Mason Greenwood, 21, with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

“All three counts relate to the same complainant.

“Specialist rape prosecutors from CPS North West’s complex casework unit authorised the charges following a review of a file of evidence received from Greater Manchester Police.

“The defendant’s first court appearance will take place on Monday, October 17 at Greater Manchester Magistrates’ Court.

“The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against the defendant are active and that he has a right to a fair trial. It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice those proceedings.”

Furthermore, he has been arrested for breaking his bail conditions. It is unfortunate to see a young 21-year-old who has his future ahead of him making such careless decisions and essentially nailing his own coffin.

United made an official statement regarding the situation, ‘Manchester United notes that criminal charges have been brought against Mason Greenwood by the Crown Prosecution Service. He remains suspended by the club, pending the outcome of the judicial process.’

Netizens’ comments regarding Mason Greenwood

“If you support Greenwood coming back to the club please unfollow me thank you,” is one of the tweets about the former Manchester United player. However, weirdly there were quite a number of defenders for Greenwood regardless of the proof against him.

Some have even made jokes about this serious situation by asking to explain this in football terms. One reply was “He’s been caught 20 yards offside and the VAR took five minutes to make the decision.”

Other fans were pleased that those defending the player with his poor decisions were at a minimum. Rape isn’t a “mistake” but unfortunatelty to some who are loyal to Greenwood would make it appear that it is.

He has officially been referred to as a “rapist” and some fans were criticising that there were people that actually think that he would make a comeback. It is stated that the CPS will not charge anyone simply based on claims but they would if there’s hard evidence.

Another tweet asked fans if they’d be comfortable with Greenwood playing for United again, and asked them to like (if they don’t support) and retweet (if they support him coming back). The results are shocking as over 2,000 fans retweeted which implied that there are thousands of people supporting his comeback.

There were some apologists saying that he is a young chap and should be pardoned. However, others do not take kindly towards that comment as the rape apologist was asked if he was ever raped by Greenwood, so who is he to forgive Greenwood.

It is unfortunately quite a common occurrence for players to misbehave with certain people and due to their influence they sometimes think that they can get away with it. Fortunately with strict law and order, criminals regardless of their background would not be let off the hook easily.
