Wiggins

The regular season has only seen one month pass by, but already the teams with the worst records are being chastised for giving subpar performances.

And the Golden State Warriors, one of the best franchises in the league, are no exception.

With an abysmal record of 8-9, people expected more from the team that has won seven championships. They simply could not wrap their heads around how the mighty team had fallen off its high horse in just a few weeks.

They had a great start to this season, winning five straight games against the Kings, Rockets, Pelicans, and Thunder before getting plagued with a concerning 6-streak loss.

As a result, the team has slipped off the top of the leaderboard and landed in the 10th spot in the Western Conference standings.

Wiggins – the time has come

In the past few weeks, we’ve seen a few members of the team getting singled out and being chastised for an issue: Green with his infamous “chokehold” on Gobert and being ejected twice,  Thompson for his poor shooting performances, and Paul for fighting an official on court.

And now, Wiggins’ time has come. In Kendra Andrews’ latest coverage on the Warriors, she tackled several things and pointed them out as the reasons why the team have been having a hard time finding their rhythm this season.

And nearing the end of her article, one could find Wiggins’ name. It turns out that the 28-year-old small forward, who had missed two months last season over a personal matter, neglected to take the time to get back into shape during the off-season.

Apparently, the lack of physical conditioning ‘annoyed’ some within the organization.

Wiggins’ stats

Wiggins has so far averaged 11.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.1 assists, a sharp decline from his performances in the previous seasons. His only brilliant play came in their bout against the Oklahoma City Thunder last Sunday, where he registered 31 points, 3 assists, and 1 block. Unfortunately, despite his valiant efforts, the Warriors still lost that game, 130-23.

There’s no telling if he can repay the trust that Steve Kerr is giving him and turn the tide. But the fans are hoping that the criticism he’s facing now can motivate him to do better in their upcoming games.
