Butler

Jimmy Butler’s name trended on X after rocking an emo vibe at NBA media day that took the assembled press and fans by surprise.

Butler’s emo hairstyle

Trends from the early 2000s are making a comeback, and it’s all thanks to Gen-Z. They’ve made the Y2K look super popular on TikTok and X, as well as on Facebook and other social media sites. Wide-leg slacks, hair claws, and mini skirts are all back in style. People are also loving ‘The Rachel’ haircut from the hit TV sitcom ‘Friends’, which is a shoulder-length haircut with lots of layers that frame your face and turn outwards.

Butler, on the other hand, took this to a whole new level when he decided to go for an emo hairstyle, a look that likewise gained popularity in the late 2000s. Butler had his short hair straightened and layered with bangs that were swept on one side of his face, covering his left eye. In order to complete his ensemble, Butler also sported piercings on the right brow, nose, and lips and had his nails painted black.

The basketball player has always been known to embody his unique personality through his physical appearance and fashion sense. After donning dreadlocks for the previous season, he has now switched to an emo look that piqued the interest of the assembled press on NBA Media Day.

“Jimmy, last year you came out with the braids, man! What’s–What’s this?”, asked one of the reporters.

“I had the dreads, last year.” Butler answered. ”What’s this? This is my emotional state. I’m one with my emotions, so this is what you get.”

Fans and the media have speculated that Butler’s emotional state was caused by the Miami Heat’s failure to secure Damian Lillard in an off-season trade, as well as the loss of Jrue Holiday to the Boston Celtics.

Since then, Butler has been given nicknames by fans on X, such as “Ball Out Boy,”, “Panic! At The Foul Line”, “ Jimmy Eat World”, “Twenty Two Pilots” and “My Chemical Bromance”. And when asked by Clay Ferraro which nickname was his favorite, he answered:

“Ball Out Boy, for sure. The play on Fall Out Boy is…I like Jimmy Beat World too. But Ball Out Boy, for sure.”
