Giancarlo Stanton

One of the New York Yankees’ top players this season was Giancarlo Stanton. Stanton played a significant role in the team’s triumph, even though Aaron Judge deservedly garnered much of the attention for his record-breaking 62 home runs in 2022.

Formerly known as Mike Stanton, Giancarlo Stanton established himself as a star player for the Florida Marlins from 2010 to 2017. The Yankees were interested in him after he blasted 59 home runs and 132 RBIs in 2017.

The Marlins signed Giancarlo Stanton to a 13-year contract worth around $325 million after the 2014 campaign. This deal was the richest one ever in sports history at the time.

The Yankees realized they practically had to have Stanton after he earned the MVP Award during his 2017 campaign.

Giancarlo had ten years left on his deal with the Marlins, but despite that, they traded him to the Yankees for Starlin Castro and other things, making him the second player in history to be dealt following a season with 50 home runs. In 2026, the Miami Marlins will start paying a portion of Stanton’s salary to the New York Yankees.

In 2018, Stanton played for the Yankees for the first time, and he hit 38 home runs and collected 100 RBIs. All of 2019 saw him sidelined due to a series of injuries. There were only 59 at-bats for Stanton that year.

For the New York Yankees in 2022, everything appeared to be going their way. In addition to breakout stars like Gleyber Torres and Jose Trevino who supplied secondary and tertiary run support, their lineup included Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo, and Stanton as the three players at the top of the order.

In 2022, Stanton amassed 78 RBIs and hit 31 home runs. He was also selected to his first All-Star team since 2018. Stanton had a key role in the ALDS matchup with the Cleveland Guardians, contributing two home runs and six RBIs over the course of the six-game series.

In 2023, Giancarlo Stanton will have to put his best foot forward for his group

There is no denying that the Yankees’ ALCS elimination at the hands of the Houston Astros was a major letdown. With an annual salary of roughly $32 million, he has the third-highest salary on the Yankees’ books. As they start the 2023 season, his team has high expectations for him.
