The Badminton World Federation announced that Guwahati in India will be the host city for the 2025 BWF World Junior Championships. The last time the World Juniors were hosted in Pune, India, was in 2008. That year, Saina Nehwal won India’s junior major gold medal when she defeated Sayaka Sato to win the world championship.
It was also announced that the team and individual competitions for each of the five categories will take place at the Badminton Association of India’s (BAI) National Centre of Excellence in northeastern India. BWF – India as a powerhouse
The National Centre of Excellence features a gymnasium that meets international standards, 14 badminton courts, and seating for over 4,000 spectators. The BWF World Juniors being held in Guwahati is proof positive that India is becoming a badminton powerhouse capable of hosting major international tournaments in addition to producing champion players. BWF officials had also visited the National Centre of Excellence during the Guwahati Masters to inspect the amenities and other arrangements.
According to BWF President Poul-Erik Hoyer, the return of the prestigious badminton competition to India is very thrilling.
Hoyer declared: “India’s production line of elite badminton talent is booming, and it is of great significance for the BWF to bring our World Juniors to India for just the second time… BAI’s brand new National Centre of Excellence is a state-of-the-art facility for badminton and will be the perfect arena for our next generation talent to battle it out for team and individual glory.”
