At the UCI Road and Paracycling Road World Championships in Zurich, Great Britain won nine medals, led by global champions Cat Ferguson, Felix Barrow, and Fran Brown.
In the women’s junior individual time trial (ITT), Ferguson won in 23 minutes, 49.72 seconds, defeating Viktoria Chladonova of Slovakia by 34.30 seconds. Moreover, British athlete Imogen Wolff earned third place.
After her win, wearing her first ever rainbow jersey, Ferguson said: “It’s incredible. The disappointment I’ve had before makes this jersey even more special.”
Furthermore, Barrow beat Tim Celen of Belgium by 34.84 seconds with his timing of 16:28.66 to win the gold in the men’s T2 individual time trial.
Brown, who won silver in the Paralympics in Paris in 2024, continued to lead a British one-two in the C1 ITT world title, clocking 29:27.93 ahead of teammate Katie Toft. Meanwhile, in the C2 event, Daphne Schrager won silver and Amelia Cass earned bronze.
In similar news, Finn Graham, the Paralympic champion, won the silver medal in the men’s C3 ITT, trailing Frenchman Florian Bouziani by just 2.11 points, while Ben Watson finished in fourth place, just missing the podium.
Moreover, Matthew Robertson won bronze in the C2 division, and Callum Russell, competing in his first World Championship, finished fourth in the men’s H4 ITT.
From September 21 to 29, 55 British athletes competed in the first-ever combined UCI Road and Paracycling Road World Championships.
