In order to continue his recovery from a hand injury he suffered while preparing for Christmas dinner, Scottie Scheffler has decided to skip another PGA Tour event in California next week.
The athlete shared on his social media account: “After consulting with my medical team, I have made the decision to withdraw from next week’s American Express tournament to give my injury more time to heal.”
He added: “I am still hoping to begin my 2025 Season at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-am.”
Cause of the injury
Scheffler sustained a puncture wound from a broken glass during the holiday season, requiring surgery on the palm of his right hand.
The 28-year old golfer will not participate in this week’s Sony Open in Hawaii, and has already missed the campaign’s first tournament at The Sentry last week.
Last year, Scheffler took home nine titles, including the Masters and the Olympic gold medal in Paris in 2024. Now, he hopes to start this year by competing at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, which begins on January 30.
