In NBA good coach gets fired

Darvin Ham said, “The most volatile aspect of employment within the NBA is being an NBA coach, hands down”.

Michael Malone said “We all understand the jobs that we sign up for. If you wanted to have a job where you’re going to be secure for 40 years, being an NBA coach is not that job.”

Malone said “He had lived it with six kids, and he understood the pitfalls of that job. I was just too dumb and stubborn to listen to him. … But we all understand the rules when we sign up for this, and it’s, unfortunately, one of the nasty parts of our business.”

Malone was hired by the Nuggets in 2015, and after eight seasons with the franchise, he is now the fourth-longest-tenured coach, after only Gregg Popovich of San Antonio, Erik Spoelstra of Miami, and Kerr.

The top three most successful teams over the previous three seasons were Milwaukee, Philadelphia, and Phoenix. Expectations for a championship still exist with Giannis Antetokounmpo on the Bucks, MVP Joel Embiid on the Sixers, Devin Booker, and Kevin Durant on the Suns. It’s unlikely that a coaching change would have been implemented had any of those players expressed dissatisfaction with the current coach. Similarly, if any player had been dissatisfied with the incumbent, that would have also led to change.
