Shubham Gill

Ajinkya Rahane and Ishant Sharma, two Test specialists who are currently out of favour, are likely to lose their annual central contracts with the BCCI, while Suryakumar Yadav and Shubham Gill could be promoted when the list for the 2022-2023 season is finalised on December 21 at the board’s Apex Council meeting.

Hardik Pandya, who is viewed as a potential T20 captain, is expected to move up from Group C to Group B. The video conference will be used to conduct the meeting, which contains 12 agenda items.

A evaluation of India’s team performance in the T20 World Cup and the One-Day Internationals against Bangladesh is not on the agenda, although the chairperson may decide to discuss other matters that are not on it.

The Apex Council will also approve a one-time payment for V Jaydevan, whose rain-rule formula has been employed for more than ten years in domestic white-ball games, in a novel gesture.

At the international level, the ICC employs the Duckwor-Lewis-Stern technique (DLS), while the Mushtaq Ali T20, Vijay Hazare Trophy, and the formerly known as Deodhar Trophy and Challenger Trophy employ the VJD.

The Central Contract has changed

The “Retainership Contract” for senior men’s and women’s cricket is one of the main topics on the agenda.

Rahane, a former vice-captain, and Ishant, a speedster, who are no longer in the running to represent India, are reportedly not going to be included on the new list. Wriddhiman Saha, a slump-hitter, will also be removed from the list because he was specifically informed at the beginning of the year that he won’t be selected for India again.

For cricket players, an A+ contract offers Rs 7 crore, Group A Rs 5 crore, Group B Rs 3 crore, and Rs Group C offers Rs 1. The BCCI consults with national selectors to set the grading system, which is based on a variety of metrics.

The list is likely to include someone like Ishan Kishan in 2022 who has participated in a sizable number of international matches in both formats.

Pandya, who has already led the national squad in two T20I away series, could be a part of group B due to a run of reliable performances. After missing a significant portion of the previous season owing to a back injury, he was downgraded to Group C last year.
