Babar Azam Pakistan

The three-match ODI series between Pakistan and New Zealand will start on January 9 in Karachi, and Pakistan has picked a potent 16-man squad.

For the three ODIs at home against New Zealand in Karachi, Pakistan has chosen Tayyab Tahir, an uncapped domestic batter. Tahir, 29, has a good List A record with an average of 43.95 in 49 matches, three hundred, and 15 fifties.

Because of a finger injury sustained while playing for the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League, regular vice-captain Shadab Khan is noticeably missing from the team. Usama Mir, a leg-spinner who has never received a cap, has been selected in his place.

Pakistan’s three uncapped players

Abrar Ahmed, who has been brilliant with the red ball since making an incredible debut against England last month, was unable to play because there was no room. Recently named to the Test team, Kamran Ghulam is also called up to the ODI squad.

Haris Rauf, who was injured in the first Test of the England series and missed the Test series against New Zealand and the two tests before that, is back.

The pride of Pakistan is Babar Azam. Shaheen Afridi, however, is not there since a medical panel decided to allow him more time to recover
fully.

In the press conference, interim head selector Shahid Afridi stated, We had limited ODI cricket last year, and this year, we are set to play 11 ODIs before we compete in the Asia Cup, followed by the World Cup in conditions that would be familiar to us.

Therefore, we intend to make the greatest use of these 11 ODIs by providing opportunities for our consistent performances that will enable us to choose the best available players for the two major tournaments.

The ODI team also welcomes back Shan Masood and Haris Sohail. Masood’s last appearance in an ODI was in 2019, while Sohail has taken part in a fifty-over match since 2020.

Afridi stated We feel the two lads still have much to offer Pakistan cricket. We have chosen to recall experienced Haris Sohail and Shan Masood.
