Nestor Cortes

In the World Baseball Classic that will be held in 2019, “Nasty” Nestor Cortes will don the red, white, and blue instead of the fabled Yankee pinstripes that he wore throughout the MLB season.

The start of the United States men’s soccer team’s FIFA World Cup match versus Iran and the announcement of Nestor Cortes’ participation happened at the same time.

The team ultimately prevailed 1-0 to advance to the competition’s knockout stages. Sports enthusiasts all throughout the country may look back on this day with fondness.

Support for Cortes

Twitter was the platform that Team USA supporters used to share their enthusiasm for the beloved Cortes.

The endearing 27-year-old pitcher for the New York Yankees was born in Cuba’s Surgidero de Batabano. However, he moved to the United States after learning that his father had won a visa lottery, taking the family’s seven-month-old son Nestor to Hialeah, Florida.

Cortes was born and raised in the city and played baseball for Hialeah High School before deciding to sign with Florida International University. That wouldn’t happen though, as the Yankees chose him in the 36th round of the 2013 MLB Draft.

The addition of Nestor Cortes to the pitching staff for Team USA is a significant improvement.

Merill Kelly, the starting pitcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks, and Adam Wainwright, a mainstay of the St. Louis Cardinals, were both added to the club shortly after the announcement. Dillon Tate of Baltimore, Devin Williams of Milwaukee, and David Bednar of Pittsburgh will provide help for them from the bullpen.

They have a potent offensive lineup that includes NL MVP Goldshmidt, Mookie Betts, Nolan Arenado, and Mike Trout. The team’s pitching staff, on the other hand, currently leaves much to be desired.

On March 11, 2023, Team USA will face Great Britain to begin its title defense. Their group, which contains the aforementioned Team GB, Mexico, Canada, and Colombia, is in Pool C and should be quite simple for them. Played at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, are all of the games from this pool.
