Thomas Cup 2022 Payout Breakdown: How much prize money will the winner get?

Thomas Cup 2022 is a badminton champion contest that is played each by the Member nations of the BWF, Badminton World Federation. The official name given to this is TotalEnergies BWF Thomas Uber Cup for sponsorship reasons. These years bring the 32nd edition of the contest which is going to be held in Thailand this year. This badminton championship is set to begin on Sunday 8th May and will conclude on 15th May 2022.

Thomas Cup 2022 will have 16 teams participating in the contest this time which are divided into 4 slots of 4 teams each. Each team will be playing against the other three times at the  Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand. This will be the third time that Thailand will be hosting this cup. As we know that there will be 16 participating teams playing in the ongoing Thomas Cup 2022, the winner of the Cup 2022 on the 15th of May, will bag a total of 8% of the total prize money which has been accumulated. This means the total prize money set for the event is $1 million both for singles and doubles matches. Thereby, the winners of both the categories will be entitled to have $120k each.

Indonesia is the defending champions of this contest and the most successful team for the men’s team. Meanwhile, for the women’s team, China is the defending champion. Last year, both the teams had bagged a sum between $100k-$80K in winning the contest, due to the pandemic the prize pool generated was $850K, because of which the Federation decided to cut down the winner’s share too.

What are the qualified teams for the Thomas Cup 2022?

Here we have the list of the member of the BWF who will be playing the contest from 8th May 2022. Thailand was automatically qualified for the Thomas Cup 2022 contest as it was the host nation, however, BWF had taken 5 procedures to define the 14-16 teams that will be playing.
